The Mighty Bayonet

I was just having a conversation with my brother over MSN. and was debating about war tactics. On whether you, as a platoon commander with 7 men flee a battle knowing that there are a hundred enemy riflemen coming up against you. And on whether you will booby trap your dead comrades in a bid to kill more enemy soldiers. And lastly, fighting to the very last breath, will you charge at the enemy with your 7 men with bayonets.

Interestingly we pulled out a document from the ever-reliable internet on a report on a bayonet charge in the Iraq war that saved the lives of british soldiers stranded in a spot, being pinned down by Iraqi soliders. Here's the article :

And more information on the mighty bayonet is found here:

And Altogether now~~~ ON-GUARD!

I don't get the story dude. They were in their armoured vehicles when they were fired upon and they decided to charge with bayonets? I understand that they've gotta assault the trench, but i'm assuming that they HAD to open fire whilst charging and whilst INSIDE the trench right? Com'on, you can't possibly use your bayonet and kill 12 freaking ARMED Iraqis.

Besides, it was an ARMOURED vechile they were in. Where on earth was the firepower man??

Gee...

Well, maybe their armoured vehical was damaged or destroyed? Immobalized, and unable to fire back, it's either they stay in the vehical and be rocketed away, or......... bayonet?... Wad would you do?
