lazy sunday

Had a good at the Singapore FAshion week show at taka yesterday. GOod thing i had a media pass and could move ard pretty alrite. I look at the silly other photographers, but then again knew that i'm totally a clutz when it comes to the 20d. The new lens that i bought few days ago proved not totally useless... once again, it's the case of the photographer, not the equipment.... i think to myself and pray that i'll not become one of those caught up with the techno revo. I'm doing okie.

Lin Sui is gonna bring a friend to the shop later. He wants to learn how to develope and print black and white stuff. Good. Lin sui wanted to teach on behalf of me. No way..!... I'll need to practise and learn myself too! Time to hit the books and do some prep.

And so we had a little party at the shop yesterday. It was Maj Lam's farewell. He's gonna finish his term in echo and move on to another posting. TO the people at aomc, and the various internal organization, it's just another posting - another human transaction in the organization. But looking at all the officers who were present at the gathering, the ex-instructors, the current ones, the wsm and awsm present - i felt that it wasn't just another posting. This wing commander has touched the lives of many, and in one way or another influenced the people he was in charge of. And these were only the instructors. think of the hundreds of cadets - now turned officers who were taught by him.

Come to think of it, when we die... who's gonna be at our funeral? ... how many people's lives have you touched and influenced? Fer me I know who's going to be there... bad thing is, i can't take photos at that gathering.... good thing is, i'm off to see my daddy.

echo.

gd friday

I'm at my shop now.. So many things have happened in this 2005. Staring at the blank walls that's suppose to be filled with pictures, i wonder to myself, the many pictures that could have been taken and wasn't due to some decisions that we make - which affected the reality plane and etches it to another one. I'll be having an exhibition from apr 12-14, at suntec city - which explains why the pictures aren't up my walls yet, i'm still deciding which ones i'll put at the exhibtion. I remember the last one i had at newton, a year back - i remembered the group being there and supporting me. I remembered that we had supper at newton after that. I remembered alvina coming by the next day in the afternoon with a packed pizza. I also remembered my aunt coming by too that day and took a look at my then - standard - piece of work. ... which is now on the top shelf of my bedroom.

I'll be off to a shoot at sentosa later... in about an hour's time. Then doing a test shoot at the singapore fashion festival tomolo - thanks to gracia. Nicky and I just bought a replacement camera - which melissa helped paid for now. Nicky just left for Nepal taking the 70-200 lens. Which made me buy the 100-300 lens yesterday, along with another 1gb card and a 580 flash which costed a total of $1100. Gee. I dunno if i can make enuff back to cover all the costs and the shop too.

The hive's business is picking up again - they just had another 4 travellers that just walked in from the bus station. Hopefully fer them, things will get better. It's really heart-warming to know that these are not just people that i know from the army, not just people that i use to call 'Sir' and 'instructors'. These people are now the people that are backing me up in my business. It's a kind of Camaraderie that only exists becoz of the things that we've been thru in Echo - somthing that alot of people will never understand. These people are brothers no matter wat kind of person you are or the kind of life you live . When the crunch time is there, these are the people that will fight your war with you. I live to say this becoz of an experience in Brunei that changed all of us that've been thru it. The 10 days worth of living out there without food and water is the one of the things that most average people in singapore will never do.

The 5 days of walking with full load with the people you either love or hate makes you love or hate them more. Ultimately when the finishing line is crossed, you look back and see the brothers that dragged you in the stream when you can't walk anymore, that carried your bag when you dislocated your shoulder, that grabbed your hand and pulled you up a hill with his other hand was clung on a branch that had torns, that hugged you and teared and you understood why. Memories of such will always be etched in my mind, and i, 2LT kwok salute all the officers that were trained in the 52/03 batch of Echo Wing, OCS. Thru all the storms that we had when since the day we entered, when we were out in the field, to the storm that killed our commissioning parade. ...well... have fun in your last few months... i've been out for quite some time, but will always remember all that happened.

ok..time to pack up and head for work now... corona's shoot... oh btw,... it's good friday - and corona is having a party at the beach... wat better way to spend the death anniversary of Christ downing beer and drunk vices?.......

sigh

a new era

Johan went into army on sat. And he gave nicky and i the best present thus far... loosing our 8k worth of camera equipment. Nicky and i had shoots lined up for this week and the many weeks to come. What i bummer!

Good thing Pete Lau lent us his 1Ds for the ericsson shoot, and his lighting equipment too.,.. phew. And hopefully we can get a replacement set by next week..(if johan passes his ippt and comes out) Nicky's going to Nepal... hope he gets his camera from his office though. I've got a shoot on the 12 - 13 at the exhibition as well as a hongkong shoot on the 15,16,17. Hopefully by then we've got a working set. Things are moving faster now. The shop is at a standstill, as i'm awaiting the schools to get back to me. Meanwhile, I've been arranged by some potential shootouts.... Lets see.... some jewellery product shoot, Vertical Rush's second album shoot, the Corona party thingy, a wedding in May - followed by a honeymoon shoot in France, the product thingy for alyssa's company, and some other bits and pieces.... Hope i get at least half of these shoots... that'll probably cover my rent for 2 months.. and a little bit for eating.

Tomolo's shoot at hyatt. Hope to finish up by noon, then to the shop to install my 6x6 enlarger. Then back home to cook some pasta for dinner. Of coz not forgetting watching american idol and amazing race. Met some of Mel's friends just now at east coast. Well, apart from the obvious age gap, i think we're pretty ok.. Some of her new associates include this guy that makes namecards, another one that does banners and large format printing, and one that makes signboards. All that i need to finish up my shop. I actually need freakin someone to fix up my curtains!... sigh. I've ran out of ideas to fix up the silly shop.

There were a good amount of people at the backpackers over the weekend,, 10bottles of beer was sold... that's $40 in revenue. Good thing fer them. Mel is officially taking over handling my shop's financial issues and other marketing things. The silly jelita couldn't do sheeeit. She promised a reply by the end of cny, and i've finished using up all my cny money already. And she still hasn't gotten back. Something tells me that she haven't even been to MOE to do the deed. Whatever lah.. crap.

Cindee's 2nd child is due end of april, and i'm off to do prenancy shots of her and her 1st baby mid april.. lets hope that she can keep the second one in till then!

Something tells me that things are going to be okie....

gallery start week!

This week is the start of da gallery. At last, i've managed to get the frames, the mounting, the hooks (damn hard to get the right ones for the job), framed 4 more hassey shots at the frame makers over the weekend,, which i'm gonna collect later. The cost? ... well, i bought nice wooden frames from bangkok at S$5 each. Photo mounting at S$3 each... which adds up to S$8 each complete frame. At the local frame makers down at alexandra rd.. it's S$28 each complete frame.. and the frames aint as nice as the bangkok ones! Think i must establish a contact in bangkok soon. So far found one guy that owns a frame shop, who's a photographer too.. It also helped that he remembered me from my previous trip. Any wayz... i've got S$5 ceiling spot lights.. which bulbs costs S$12. spent more on the bulbs than the light body.. hah. Gonna fix them up today.. and get ready for opening..SOON!

Finally.. my blood's hungry once again..
